2016-06-04 South Stone Antonov An-30 overran runway at Yambio
On landing at Yambio Airport, the AN-30 overran the end of the runway coming to a stop in a field. One passenger was hurt.
The An-30 sustained unknown damage in an overrun at Yambio Airfield.
With 36 people on board, the aircraft apparently touched down late on the unpaved runway 02 at Yambio.
The pilots were unable to bring their aircraft to a standstill in time. The AN-30 departed the runway, crossed a public road and ended in a potatoe field about 100 meters further where the nosegear collapsed.
Fortunately no person was seriously hurt in the incident and no fire broke out. There are reports that one passenger was treated with minor injuries.
According to a airport official, it was the pilot’s first landing at Yambio, citing a lack of familiarization with the airfield.
