2016-04-30 Air Vallee Fokker 50 lands without nosegear at Catania

The Fokker 50 aircraft made a safe nosegear-up landing after the pilots did not succeed in lowering it on approach. All 21 on board remained unhurt.

At about 10:35L the Fokker 50 of Air Vallee – leased from swedish company Amapola Flyg – was on approach to runway 08 at Catania’s Fontanarossa Airport when the pilots received indication their nosegear did not extend.

The pilots broke off the approach and entered a holding patern at 2.900 ft east of the airport for troubleshooting. Then, a low-approach was carried out to allow a visual inspection of the nosegear from the control tower.

After all attempts to lower the nosegear failed, the aircraft made a landing on runway 08 with its nosegar in retracted postition at 11:34L.

After holding the nose up in the air for as long as possible, the nose dropped when the speed of the Fokker fall under a certain point dragging along the asphalt surface until it came to a stop.

All passengers and crewmembers evacuated safely.  The Fokker  50 sustained damage to its lower nose section.
