The
Embraer aircraft made a safe landing with its nosegear in a retracted
position on runway 22L at Newark-Liberty International Airport. All
on baord safely evacuated via chutes. There were no reports about any
injured persons. Earlier on the approach, the pilots reported an
indication about a fault in the nosegear prompting them to discontinue the
approach at 500 ft. and to enter a holding pattern to work out the
appropriate checklists. After a low-pass over the runway to allow visual
inspection from the ground, the nosegear remained stuck in the
"up" postition. When minimum fuel level was reached, the pilots
were forced to land on the maingears only. During the landing roll, the
nose dropped and dragged on the ground until the aircraft came to a safe
stop. Damage is limited to the lower nose section.

On
landiung runway 20 in good visibility and calm winds, the aircraft - from
what witnesses and aviation specialists reported - made a hard landing on
all three gears. Followed by at least two more violent touchdowns,
resulting in the subsequent collapse of the nosegear followed by both
maingears. Steering control was lost and the ATR began to veer to the left
when it departed paved surface and ran over soft ground about 150 meters
before the end of the runway (runway lengh = 1677 meters). Before it came
to a halt, the aircraft ran into a sandpile. There were no reports
about any injuries among all on board. The ATR took extensive damage to
its entire undercarriage, lower portions of the fuselage and propeller
blades.

On
a post-maintenance testflight at night, the pilots reported difficulties
in lowering the undercarriage. The aircraft made two low passes above the
runway to allow ground technicians to observe the status of the landing
gear. However, after all attempts failed to show success, the pilots made
a belly landing resulting in substantial damage to the plane´s underside
and propellers before it came to a safe halt on the runway. There was no
fire. The runway was reopened until 0600L. The incident is being
investigated by the ATSB.

During
take-off run the aircraft drifted to the right of the runway until it ran
into deep snow and the take-off was aborted. The aircraft came to a halt
in snow about mid point of runway 09/27 and remained intact. All on
board evacuated via on-board airstairs. Two passengers received injuries
and were taken to hospital. Both propellers were damaged when the aircraft
went into a deep snowbank. Craiova Airport weather consisted of intense
snowfall (15-20 cm) and partially obscured visibility of runway markings
and lights. The airport remained closed for all operations for hours. The
only runway at Craiova Airport is 2500 meters in lengh.

All
on board remained unhurt when the aircraft overshot the end of the runway
05/23 (lengh= 2187 meters) by 10 - 20 meters. The A320 came to a stop on
the grass within the airport boundary fence. At the time of the
landing, local weather consisted of rain, overcast skies and a slight
tailwind component.
Kalibo Airport was forced to close all operations for about 3,5 hours
until the A320 was removed. Published video
footage showed the aircraft made a touchdown well behind the
white touchdown markings leaving only about half the runway available for
braking.
