The
aircraft received major damage when it failed to stop on landing, ran
through the airport perimeter fence and rolled down an embankment before
it came to rest on a public road (120th Avenue) with its nosegear
collapsed. According to local sources, both pilots are okay. Both
propellers also received damage. A failure of its hydraulic system may
have lead to a brake failure on landing, local media reported. As a
precautionary measunre authorities grounded three other Neptunes to carry
out inspections. At the time of the accident, the aircraft was engaged in
firefighting operations north of the airport. (Photo:

During
take-off run at Kinshasa N´djili Airport the aircraft suffered a tire
burst at high speed. Tire debris severed a hydraulic line and causing
additional damage to the left engine. The pilots continued the take-off
but levelled off at lower altitude for preparations for an emergency
return to land. Subsequently, the left engine had to be shut down. Despite
all efforts, the pilots were unable to extent the undercarriage fully so a
gear-up landing was made. Very soon after touchdown on runway 06, the MD-80 began to
drift to the right off the runway where it came to a stop on grassy ground. Its
nosegear either failed to extent or collapsed. It is
understood that there were 20 or so injuries persons. The poor state of the runway at N´djili
Airport raised speculations wether this may have been the reason for the tire burst.

Very
soon after take-off from runway 25 at Berlin-Schoenefeld International
Airport, the DC-3 suffered a powerloss on its left engine. The pilots were unable to maintain
altitude and an immediate return to land on a runway became impossible.
The pilots put the DC-3 down in an open area close to a construction site
where the aircraft received substantial damage but remained intact. All
persons on board managed to escape but seven people were received minor
injuries. The DC-3 suffered destruction of the right wing and is likely not to be repaired
again. At the time the
aircraft was on a local sightseeing flight from Schoenefeld Airport to the

After
touchdown on runway 07 (lengh= 2.438 m), the pilots were unable to stop
the aircraft before the end of the runway resulting in an overran. The
Embraer Regional Jet ran over the grass where its nosegear collapsed
before it came to a halt about 125 meters further. Three people - among
them the copilot - received injuries. At the time the runway was wet from
recent rainfall.

Immediately
after becoming airborne from runway 15R(ight) at Logan International
Airport, a series of loud bangs was heared coming from the left engine.
Also flames were seen and the engine began trailing smoke. The pilots
continued to climb to 2.000 feet and shut the engine down. About 20
minutes later the A330 made a safe emegency return to runway 15R again,
still trailing smoke. After coming to a standstill on the runway, airport
fire services quickly extinguished the flames. All on board left the
Airbus A330 via mobile airstairs. Logan Airport was forced to close for
all traffic for 15 minutes.

The
aircraft revceived major damage when it landed with all gear-up on runway
24R at Lanseria. There were no injuries among passengers and crew. Earlier
on approach, the left main gear failed to lower, only the gear doors
opened. After numerous attmepts to lower it and a runway low-pass in order
to carry out a visual inspection, the pilots decided to make a belly
landing with all gear-up. Extent of damage is unclear at present. The
aircraft was on a charter flight carrying sport journalists to the World
Cup match of Algeria against Slovenia.

touchdown runway 28 at El Alto Airport (lengh: 4.000 m), the 737 suffered
loss of hydraulic pressure resulting in a complete wheelbrake failure
leaving the pilots to slow down the 737 with reverse thrust only. The
aircraft departed the end of the runway at slow speed coming to rest on
even surface and only minimal (or no) damage occured. Also, no one on
board the aircraft was injured. Initial investigation revealed a bracket
in the right maingear failed causing vibration and leading to a rupture of
the adjacent hydraulic line. |

in a continously increasing bank angle. After about 90 seconds, the rudder
returned to the neutral postition and the pilots regained fully control of

According to unconfirmed sources, the aircraft hit the ground short of the
runway threshold resulting in a collapse of the entire undercarriage.
Additionaly, the propeller #4 seperated and left inner flaps were damaged
by flying debris. The L-100-30 Hercules drifted to the right and came to
rest halfway off the paved surface of the runway. All on board escaped
without serious injuries. Aircraft is believed to be a hull loss.

| On
take-off run the aircraft apparently lost a cover plate from its tail
fuselage. The lost part was discovered when the aircraft was flying in
Belgian airspace. As there was no visual damage and no abnormal flight
condition the aircraft
continued to fly at a lower altitude and later diverted to Stockholm where
it made a safe landing. The MD-80 was on a ferry flight and was due to be
delivered to Allegiant Airlines (US). |
