The
aircraft was parking at gate B5, awaiting passengers when a fire broke out
in the cockpit. The pilots were able to leave the aircraft immediately
without injury when fire services were able to extinguish the flames. The

On
approach, the pilots received indication about an unsafe nosegear
indication. After making sure the nosegear remained in the retracted
position, the pilots entered a holding pattern to resolve the problem but
no avail. After most of the fuel was consumed the aircraft carried out an
emergency landing at Timisoara without its nosegear on a partially foamed
portion of the runway. The aircraft came to a safe stop on the runway and
all on board disemberked without injuriy. Damage to the lower nose section
is likely to be substantial.

earlier reports, the Antonov 12 was in the late stages of its take-off run
at Luxor, when - according to ground observers - flames were seen coming
from an engine. The aircraft then only marginally gained altitude and
crashed beyond the end of the runway where it was engulfed in flames. The
An-12 came to rest about 700 meters behind the end of the runway. None of
the five crewmembers survived the accident. The Antonov was on a ferry
flight without freight from Africa to the Ukraine. Russian media reports
the crew took off despite a fuel leak, forcing the crew to divert to Luxor
earlier. |

On
landing in darkness, the right main gear suddenly gave way causing the
right wing to drop and scrape along the runway before the Jetstream came

Early speculation into the cause of the incident focused on a faulty spare
part inside the right maingear.
