2016-03-31 Aeromexico E-170 lands at wrong airport in Monterrey
The aircraft mistakenly landed at Norte Airport instead of Monterrey International. Fortunately the landing was safely done without any conflicting traffic situations. The flight later landed safely at its intended destination.
In fading daylight but good visibility, Aeromexico Connect flight 2268 was on approach to Monterrey International Airport, due for a landing from the west on runway 11.
Somehow the Embraer Jet landed on runway 11 of Del Norte Airport, about 8 miles to the northwest of their destination.
The landing was uneventful, and no other traffic or ground vehicle was in the way. The landing runway at Del Norte Airport is only 1500 meters in lengh compared to 3000 meters at the International Airport.
The aircraft departed del Norte Airport about 10 minutes later and landed safely on International Airport.
The license of both pilots was suspended by the mexican Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) while the investigation is ongoing.
