2016-01-17 illegal BN-2A Islander destroyed after landing Colombia
The aircraft was destroyed after an flight on a remote airstrip in Colombia. The aircraft was believed to be on an illegal drug flight.
The BN-2A Islander was flying eastbound in darkness when it was intercepted by colombian military aircraft. The aircraft landed on an improvised runway outside any airport where it was met by a van.
The suspicious circumstances surrounding the flight lead the military to believe the aircraft was an an illegal flight for the purpose to carry drugs. After the landing, the aircraft was strafed and eventually destroyed by fire.
The BN-2A Islander propeller driven aircraft was carrying the false US registration N90460, normally clinged to a Beechcraft Model 18.
According to information provided by the Colombian Military, the flight entered Colombian airspace unauthorized.
There were no reports any any casualites or injured persons in volved in this event however at least one person was captured and taken into custody.
