2014-12-21 Daily Air Dornier Do-228 made belly landing at Taitung, Taiwan

The Dornier aircraft was badly damaged in a belly ladning at Taitung. Both pilots remained unhurt.

The aircraft was performing a series of touch and go-maneuvres for pilot training purposes at Taitung Airport, when the pilots were simulating a left hand engine failure on approach. It was during this flight phase when the pilots apparently lost their focused on the primary handling parameters and forgot to lower the undercarriage.

Consequently, the Do-228 landed with all gear-up and skidded on its belly for over 200 meters until it came to rest within the widh of the runway.

Both pilots deplaned without injuiry.

NOTE: This particular aircraft was involved in another serious incident when it landed, its right maingear in a retracted position at Taipei in 1998.
