|The 767 made an ermgency landing at Madinah Intl Airport with a retracted right maingear. The aircraft settled on its right engine and wingtip resulting in major damage when it dragged along the runway creating lots of sparks before coming to rest within the paved surface of the runway. During evacuation process via emergency slides, 29 passengers received injuries some of them were sent to receive medical treatmant, another 18 received minor injuries.
Airport fire services were on stand-by and foamed the right side of the aircraft. On board the flight were iranian pilgrims on their way to Mecca.
It is reported by local authorities that the pilots reported problems lowering the right maingear which remained frozen in a near „up“-position during approach and requested emergency equipment on the runway. After all efforts were fruitless to extent it by alternate methods, an emergency landing became inevitable. Damage to the aircraft is believed to be beyond economical repair.
Madinah Airport will be closed approximately for the next 24h for removal of the aircraft and runway cleaning.
